Description:

The Medical Coding Trainer will be responsible for conducting medical coding training for both new and existing medical coders.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing modules for medical coding and billing training, covering areas such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, E/M coding, Business of Medicine, Edit Resolution, and Revenue Cycle Management.
  • Develop curriculum and training syllabus related to coding and billing training programs, including periodic updates, policy updates, peripherals of RCM, and Med-Metrix Learning Academy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Update existing training modules as necessary.
  • Develop and produce materials for inpatient medical coding exercises, assessments, and qualifying examinations.
  • Consolidate coder scores from quizzes, exams, and assessments and present consolidated data during weekly meetings.
  • Maintain certifications of staff by providing continuing education units.
  • Provide training and review for onboarding coders as well as refresher training for tenured coders.
  • Disseminate changes and updates in guidelines and rules to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with all workgroups to resolve issues that impact internal and external customers.
  • Participate in monthly calibration training and create assessments to check learnings from calibration training.
  • Assist QA Supervisor and QATM with account launch for launching accounts.
  • Provide support and feedback for TNA (Training Needs Analysis), RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and educational note creation for the QA Team.
  • Audit QA staff to monitor their respective coding and auditing accuracy.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of any Medical or Allied Medical course or equivalent work experience.
  • Hold AAPC and/or AHIMA certification.
  • Proficient with Revenue Cycle Management, E/M, and Procedure Coding.
  • Ability to work in a team-fostered environment and adapt to changing job responsibilities, shifting schedules, new procedures, and unexpected workloads and stresses.
  • Possess strong verbal, written communication, interpersonal skills, and analytical skills.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours.
  • Assertive self-starter who can work independently yet function in a team environment.
  • Ability to plan well, prioritize work, and maintain calmness under pressure.
  • Understanding of and strict adherence to all HIPAA regulations.
